The moment you enter the green valley of Kokernag, you are welcomed by the cool and fragrant air of the mountains, an air that brings with it the perfume of the blossoming flowers. Bringi Kokernag spring is situated in the heart of Bringi valley, 2020m above sea level and is located 70kms from summer capital Srinagar in south Kashmir. Kokernag spring bubbles at seven places at the foot of the forested mountains known as 7 springs Kashmir. The water of this spring is famous for its medicinal and digestive properties. The Ain-i-Akbari or the “Constitution of Akbar” is a 16th-century detailed document recording the administration of emperor Akbar’s empire, written by his vizier, Abul-Fazl ibn Mubarak where in it he has chronicled for posterity the benefits of the sweet water spring of Bringi Kokernag. He also mentions that water of Kokernag spring satisfies both hunger and thirst and it’s also remedy for indigestion and stomach ulcers. This beneficent gift of nature is still regarded as having extraordinary healing powers and the sick are bought here for treatment by its water and solitude.
